At its January 25, 2008, business meeting in Orange, Calif., the Association of Christian Church Educators (ACCE) voted unanimously to disband as an organization. This decision was recommended by the ACCE Leadership team because of changes in the Christian education ministries of the general, regional church as well as in local churches.
Convener Linda Presley said, "Looking at the many changes in Christian Education within the Disciples structures the time seems to have come to celebrate all ACCE has been in the past and close it with gratitude for where it has taken us. The closing of ACCE will not mean that Christian Education is not being offered in the church but that new alternative avenues will now be the avenues for nurture of that ministry. While much has changed in Christian education, the fervor, dedication, and sense of call of Christian education remains steadfast and strong."
We celebrate the accomplishments of ACCE during the past 61 years and recognize the many individuals who have worked diligently to keep Christian education a priority in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Past ACCE Notes, the organization’s newsletter and other documents will be housed at Disciples of Christ Historical Society.
A general ministry of the church, Disciples Home Missions is committed to equipping Disciples for Christ and connecting people to the life changing love of God. |
