In response to recent massive flooding in Iowa, Disciples Volunteering will begin operation of a Disciples Mission Station there beginning the week of August 3, 2008.
This work is a partnership between Week of Compassion, Upper Midwest Region of the Chrisitan Church (Disciples of Christ), congregations serving as mission stations, and Disciples Volunteering.
So far, three Iowa congregations have committed to serve as Mission Stations: Noelridge Christian Church, Cedar Rapids; Marion Christian Church, Marion; and First Christian Church, Coralville. Two other Disciples Congregations are in the process of making plans to become mission stations. At this time, we are scheduling groups from August 3 to November 16, 2008. Due to winter weather constraints, the mission stations will suspend full time operation from mid-November through next March. Beginning in April 2009 full time operation will resume. Each of the mission stations will be managed by a Disciples Volunteering Mission Station Manager.
To schedule a work week please contact Anne Marie Moyars in the Office of Disciples Volunteering at (888) 346-2631. If you have questions regarding the recovery efforts please contact Carl Zerweck, Director of Disciples Volunteering at (317) 289-5061.
A general ministry of the church, Disciples Home Missions is committed to equipping Disciples for Christ and connecting people to the life changing love of God. |
